| 1999 Winston Cup Alternative Cars |
Hi There! If you got here without seeing the RPS banner at the top or the menu to the left, please head for the MAIN PAGE, you missed some COOL STUFF by coming directly here! And now, on with the show!
The Alternative Winston Cup cars idea came from my disappointment with Rusty Wallace's Harley Davidson paint scheme. I've been a Rusty fan for a long time, and he's been known for having great paint schemes for a long time. When they just slapped some silver wings, a little H/D logo and made the car all blue, I TURNED BLUE. I couldn't believe it. I thought, "Sheesh! I could do better than that!". Well, Dizzy Dean said 'it ain't braggin' if you can do it.'. Words to live by. hehe. J/K. I set out to paint a new Rusty Wallace Harley Davidson #2 Ford Taurus. You can see the results below:
Well, a lot of people really liked the car, and I thought it would be fun to redo them all. So I set out painting a whole set. Progress isn't lightning fast (about 3 a week), but the quality of the cars is top notch (or so you all keep telling me. hehe). The rest is history, I guess.

Each car starts from scratch. I make a lot of the logos and numbers myself, that way I can change the colors, the fonts, add special effects, that kind of stuff. This Bobby Labonte car has bright green lightning sprawling across it. I made this car with a night race like the Pepsi 400 or the Winston in mind. I'd really like to see this one under the lights someday. :) Each car has all the correct sponsors and numbers. All the associate sponsors are there as well. Even the little door decals are done one at a time. While I'm not working on this set any longer because of the release of NASCAR3, many people who don't have Nascar3 still enjoy using these cars as personal rides, etc.

All alternative cars are now for NASCAR3, and they feature the 2000 Winston cup Teams, Sponsors, and Drivers. Pretty cool, huh? Click here to check out the 2000 alternative cars for Nascar Racing 3. If you're not interested, here are the original alternative cars, the ones that started it all!

9-11-99 - Mobil 1 #12 Ford
This car isn't much of a departure from Mayfield's actual scheme, but it is quite a bit more 'active' and bright, and features the very cool Mobil 1 pegasus under the regular Mobil 1 logo on the hood. I also spiced up and altered the numbers a bit.

8-28-99 - Caterpillar #22 Pontiac
Ward Burton's car is actually pretty cool. Has a good balance of colors, and stands out well on the track. But, I remembered Scott Sharp's Rain-X SCCA car from a few years ago, and how much I liked that car. So this new Ward Burton car has a little bit of that halftone pattern in it, I also did the CAT logo a little differently. :)

8-24-99 - Pennzoil #1 Chevy
This car isn't as big a change as most of the others have been. But it has some very subtle effects in it that you might not notice at first glance. For example, 'PENNZOIL' is watermarked on the side panels and hood of the car, with the rest of the scheme being placed on top. This is DIFFICULT, to say the least. But I think it pays of in the end.

8-20-99 - Hot Wheels Pro Racing #44 Pontiac
I figured Hot Wheels makes NASCAR cars (they're called the 'Pro Racing' Series), so why not use it as the sponsor for the Hot Wheels sponsored Pontiac driven by Kyle Petty in NASCAR Winston Cup competition? I don't see any reason why not, particularly when you add flames to it. ;)

8-15-99 - Cartoon Network/Space Ghost #9 Ford
I wanted to do this car with Speed Racer as the sponsor, but they don't run that show on Cartoon Network anymore, so I went to my 2nd favorite show, SpaceGhost. This is probably one of my favorite cars so far. It just turned out really well. :) Hope you guys like it too.

8-11-99 - McDonald's #94 Ford
They did a GREAT job repainting this car for '99. However, I'm a firm believer in the addage "everything can improve to some degree", so I took a similar idea and developed it a little further. I like the number on this one, A LOT. hehe. Awesome Bill from Dawsonville just got a new set of wheels. hehe

8-7-99 - Exide NASCAR Select #99 Ford
Am I the only one who HATES the magenta in Burton's car? I decided to go a whole other route, focusing on the NASCAR Select line of batteries, and going from there. Very cool number on this one. Been waitin' for a chance to use that font on one of these cars. <G>.

8-7-99 - Kellogg's Corn Flakes #5 Chevrolet
Wow. This was without a doubt the hardest car to do thus far. Just trying to get those colors to look right together is enough to drive a guy crazy. I can't say I'm totally elated with this car, but it's good enough. I've got 25 other cars yet to do. ;)

7-28-99 - Dupont #24 Chevrolet - Updated
The Dupont car really needs a makeover. I've always called it the 'rainbow brite' car. hehe. This one still has a lot of colors, but uses some that are more attractive, and on a black scheme. If you like the previous version with the silver top, it's still available here --->.PCX .CAR

7-24-99 - GM Goodwrench #3 Chevrolet
Wow, yet another car I was afraid to touch. I wanted to make this car as intimidating as the old one, but with a little more 'cutting-edge' feel. Think this will do. BTW, there may be a 2000 MC version of this one the way. ;)

7-22-99 - Valvoline #6 Ford
I didn't want to redo Mark's car. His has been my favorite since they went to the current schemed with the killer little V's on it. Those guys also do great special schemes for the Winston, etc. But I said I'd do them all, and here's what I came up with. :)

7-18-99 - Skoal #33 Chevrolet
I never could understand why the guys at Andy Petree Racing couldn't do more with those great Skoal colors. Here's something a lot more interesting, and one that uses those colors a lot better.

7-15-99 - Ford Quality Care #88 Ford
Ok, guys, another alternative car for ya. Think I nailed this one, too. Light years more interesting than D.J.'s current scheme, and another car that would look good under the lights. Enjoy!

7-13-99 - Interstate Batteries #18 Pontiac
I just wasn't satisfied with the other Bobby Labonte car. I got this idea last night, and threw it together tonight. This is WAY cooler. Lightning bolts galore and a cool new number. Hope you guys like this. You can use either this one or the one below. Up to you. :)

7-11-99 - Budweiser #8 Chevrolet
Ok, this one I'm sure about. hehehe. I was kind of disappointed when they took Steve Park's car and just painted it red for Dale Jr. Here ya go Dale, a car that's more your speed. ;) Think this is my favorite so far!

7-10-99 - K-Mart #66 Ford
Ahhh, finally. D.W.'s been driving one of the ugliest cars around since he got the K-Mart deal. Try this one, there, Darrell. I ditched the orange and darkened the colors. Note.. this one's assymetrical. You'll have to download it to see the other side, tho. ;)

7-7-99 - Havoline #28 Ford
The 28 car has been sporting the same paint job FOREVER. It was cool back when Davey was running it, but it's time for a redo. Here's what I'd do if they let me paint it. ;)

6-28-99 - STP #43 Pontiac
Well, this one was hard to do. I hate to change anything with a tradition like the 'Petty blue'. But I just couldn't get the orange and the blue in the logo to jive. So I decided to ditch the blue. Hope everyone likes it anyway. I sure do. :)

6-26-99 - Home Depot/Ridgid #20
I've been a fan of Tony Stewart since he ran Sprint cars, so I'm stoked to see him kicking butt and taking names in Winston Cup. His car is cool, but a black version couldn't hurt. :)

6-23-99 - Harley Davidson/Miller Lite #2
Ahhh, the car that started it all. Dissapointed and frustrated with the Penske Car Artist's lack of creativity, Freez sets out to do what no man has done before, repaint them all!!!!!! hehe. This is still one of my favorites. Wish I could get Rusty to see it. ;)
